Maria Nieves Obituary, Death: – On October 11, 2024, at approximately 11:07 AM, Connecticut State Police from Troop G responded to a fatal accident on Route 8 Southbound, close to Exit 7 in Trumbull. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver, Leonel Diaz, lost control of his vehicle, which subsequently veered off the roadway onto the grassy shoulder and collided with a rock wall for reasons that remain unclear.
Diaz was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center by Trumbull EMS, suffering from serious injuries. Maria Nieves, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained critical injuries and was also taken to St. Vincent’s, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad is currently aiding in the ongoing investigation.
