Larenz Collins Obituary, Death; – A young man from Stockbridge died after drowning in West Point Lake on Tuesday afternoon. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Larenz Collins, according to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 7:10 p.m., someone called 911 to report a swimmer who was in trouble and had possibly gone underwater at R. Shaefer Heard Park, which juts into the southern portion of West Point Lake by the Georgia-Alabama line.
Emergency crews from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Troup County Fire Department responded. They canvassed the lake using boats and divers, but had to pause as a severe storm swept through the area.
Collins’ body was found and pulled from the water at around 10:45 p.m. “At this point, this appears to be a tragic swimming accident,” the sheriff’s office said in its statement.
