Omar Sharif Obituary, Death; – A man from Chicago is confronting a felony charge after authorities reported that he fled the site of an accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Berwyn early on Sunday morning.

Berwyn police were dispatched to the intersection of Oak Park Avenue and Windsor Avenue at approximately 3 a.m. on June 29 following a notification of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived within a minute and discovered 53-year-old Omar Sharif from Chicago in critical condition.

Sharif was transported to MacNeal Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities indicated that the vehicle involved had departed the scene prior to their arrival. Detectives conducted interviews with witnesses and collected surveillance footage from both public and private cameras. They established that the suspect’s vehicle was registered in Chicago.

Subsequently, police located the vehicle parked in Chicago, which exhibited damage to its hood and front bumper. The car was towed to the Berwyn Police Department for additional investigation.

The owner, identified as 49-year-old Anthony Berry from Chicago, reached out to the police and made self-incriminating statements, as reported by investigators.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office evaluated the case and sanctioned one count of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, classified as a Class 1 felony.

Authorities have not disclosed the specifics of what Berry communicated to investigators. He is set to appear for a detention hearing on Wednesday at the Maybrook Courthouse.
