Lamine Mahmoudi Obituary, Death; – The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was shot and killed early Tuesday morning by Columbus police during a confrontation in the city’s University District. Lamine Mahmoudi, 34, was pronounced dead at 1:36 a.m. after being shot in an alley near a residence on the 200 block of Chittenden Avenue, The Dispatch previously reported.

Police said that Mahmoudi approached officers responding to repeated calls to the residence, holding “edged weapons.” When Mahmoudi did not comply with officers’ commands to stop and drop the weapons, officers fired. It is unknown how many officers fired. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating, which is policy for any law enforcement officer involved in a shooting in the city.
