Joseph Garcia Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who was shot and killed by detectives following an alleged threat against them. The police announced on Monday that the individual is 22-year-old Joseph Garcia.

Detectives from the San Antonio Police Department’s Covert Unit had been monitoring Garcia after receiving tips regarding his location. At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, investigators found Garcia, who was wanted on three felony warrants, in a parked vehicle at the intersection of Broadway Street and Cortia Street.

When three uniformed officers attempted to apprehend Garcia, he reportedly disregarded their commands to exit the vehicle, instead threatening to shoot the officers while rummaging through a backpack.

In response, the three detectives discharged their firearms at Garcia, striking him multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The detectives involved have been identified as Detective Christopher Potts, with 15 years of service, Detective Joshua Nicholson, with 7 years of service, and Detective Alex Solchenberger, also with 7 years of service.

They will be assigned to administrative duties while the SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit conduct their investigations.
