Ashleigh E McKinzie Obituary, Death; – Deputies are currently looking into a shooting incident in Dekalb County that involves a woman recognized as a professor at MTSU.

On December 4, early in the morning, deputies were dispatched to Smithville Highway close to Captain’s Point Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered an adult woman lying deceased in the roadway, exhibiting apparent gunshot wounds, as reported by District Attorney Bryant C. Dunaway. A loaded and cocked handgun was located beside her, which was confirmed to belong to her. She has been identified as 41-year-old Ashleigh E. McKinzie.

At the scene, deputies also found an adult male, 27-year-old Todd C. Stanton. A handgun registered to him was located on the hood of his truck. Officials have stated that he is cooperating with the investigation. Currently, no criminal charges have been filed.

Dunaway has sought assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and both agencies are collaborating to ascertain the details surrounding the incident as evidence is still being assessed.

McKinzie was a member of the faculty in the MTSU Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The department expressed its condolences to her family, colleagues, and students, urging those affected to utilize the available support services on campus.
