Yuxi Wu Obituary, Death; – A student from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) was tragically confirmed as the victim of a vehicular accident while crossing Troost Avenue on her scooter around noon on Thursday. Yuxi Wu, a pianist at the conservatory, succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital.

According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), Wu was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a vehicle and subsequently transported to the hospital. Witnesses at the intersection expressed that the incident might have been preventable had a stoplight been installed at that location. Although the speed limit is set at 35 miles per hour, numerous residents reported to KCTV on Thursday evening that drivers often exceed this limit.

Courtney Crappell, DMA, Dean of the UMKC Conservatory, communicated with students via email on Friday at approximately 2:40 p.m., indicating that this loss has a profound impact on the entire community.

Crappell mentioned that he has reached out to Wu’s parents to extend his condolences and affirmed that UMKC will continue to support the family throughout this difficult time.

Wu had commenced her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance this fall. “Yuxi was not only a diligent student striving for self-improvement but also a genuinely kind individual,” remarked Professor Sean Chen.

UMKC is offering counseling services to all students, faculty, and staff who may need assistance in coping with this tragedy. Group counseling sessions will be held in the Grant Hall Conference Room on October 1 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Additionally, students have the option to access drop-in counseling services. Individual counseling sessions are available at the Brookside 51 building, Suite 201, with the following schedule: Monday at 9 and 10 a.m., and 1 p.m.
Tuesday at 1 and 3 p.m.
Thursday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
