Willie James Johnson III Obituary, Death;- An investigation is currently in progress following the fatal shooting of a man in Bessemer overnight.
The victim has been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as Willie James Johnson III, a 24-year-old resident of Hueytown. The incident occurred at an abandoned residence located in the 1800 block of Clarendon Avenue, a site where individuals frequently congregate, according to police.
Det. Justin Burmeister reported that Johnson was socializing with others when gunfire erupted. Authorities have not yet determined whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle, nor if Johnson was specifically targeted.
Johnson sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to UAB Medical West Hospital, where he was declared dead at 10:55 p.m. This marks the third homicide in Bessemer for the year.
