Stephen Carroll II Obituary, Death; – An arrest has been made regarding a fatal shooting that occurred at a shopping center in south Charlotte on Saturday night, with the victim being identified on Monday.
The deceased has been named as 39-year-old Stephen Carroll II.
Records indicate that 29-year-old Steven Downing Jr. has been arrested and charged with murder and robbery involving a dangerous weapon. The shooting reportedly took place just before midnight on Saturday, August 2, along South Boulevard near Archdale Road.
According to police, they responded to a call concerning an assault with a deadly weapon and, upon their arrival, discovered Carroll suffering from a gunshot wound. Carroll was swiftly transported to the hospital by paramedics, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Detectives stated that after conducting an investigation, Downing was identified as a potential suspect in the case.
After securing warrants for his arrest, he was taken to the Law Enforcement Center and questioned by investigators. Following this interview, Downing was incarcerated and charged. At the time of this report, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.
