Scott Decker Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who was shot during a contentious road rage altercation that has caused considerable alarm in Orinda. The individual has been identified as 50-year-old Scott Decker, who was operating a Toyota 4Runner. The person accused of the shooting, driving a Tesla, claims to have acted in self-defense after Decker allegedly exited his vehicle and struck him.

The shooter, described only as a 72-year-old man, contacted law enforcement after the incident occurred at the intersection of Las Vegas Road and La Espiral, situated north of Highway 24. While the driver was taken into custody, he was not formally arrested. Reports indicate that the Tesla driver resides in close proximity to the scene, as does Decker, who also lived in Orinda.

The incident prompted a significant police response, with officers from Lafayette, Moraga, and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office arriving, given the rarity of homicides in the affluent community of 19,000 residents.

“I heard a loud bang and my first thought was, ‘OK, gun’ and then I thought, ‘No way.’ I initially considered it might have just been a tire blowing,” Shawn James recounted to KTVU following the shooting.

In a related note, a tragic event occurred in 2019 during a Halloween gathering at an Airbnb, resulting in five fatalities and four injuries due to a mass shooting.
