Samuel A Mittler Obituary, Death; – The North Central Washington Special Investigations Unit is currently conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting involving U.S. Marshals that took place on December 19 in Okanogan County, approximately 17 miles northeast of Tonasket.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased individual as Samuel A. Mittler, aged 40, from Tonasket, following the completion of an autopsy.
On that morning, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Special Operations Group, along with the Washington State Patrol SWAT team, were executing a nationwide arrest warrant when law enforcement personnel shot Mittler. He was being sought on two counts of second-degree assault and one count of intimidating a public servant.
According to investigators, Mittler was in possession of a shotgun at the time he encountered the marshals.
The scene has been thoroughly processed, and investigators are currently analyzing the evidence collected. Detectives have carried out several search warrants to gather physical evidence and are collaborating with the Washington State Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Service to secure body-worn camera footage from the officers who were present at the scene.
A family liaison has been appointed to ensure that Mittler’s family remains informed throughout the process. The investigation is still ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
