Ricky Verret Obituary, Death; – Officials from the Louisiana State Police are actively investigating a collision that occurred on Louisiana Highway 167 in Lafayette Parish, resulting in the death of a pedestrian.

As reported by Trooper Monique Lavergne from the Public Affairs Section of the Louisiana State Police, the victim was initially walking on the right side of the road on the shoulder. Concurrently, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound on Louisiana Highway 167 near Leblanc Road while towing a trailer.

Lavergne stated that, for reasons still being investigated, the victim entered the path of the Jeep and was struck immediately. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Ricky Verret from Maurice. Verret was declared dead at the scene of the incident. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.

Law enforcement officials have indicated that the driver of the Jeep Wrangler was wearing a seat belt and did not sustain any injuries in the incident. Lavergne mentioned that impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor in this collision; however, as is standard procedure in fatal accidents, routine toxicology samples were collected for laboratory analysis.
