Reggie Lee Dantzler Obituary, Death; – Family members confirmed the identity of a man fatally shot at the SC Motorplex on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Reggie Lee Dantzler.
The incident took place at the South Carolina Motorplex Dragstrip Road on Saturday shortly before 6 p.m. Authorities reported that a 32-year-old man and a 15-year-old teenager sustained injuries during the shooting. Both individuals are currently in stable condition and are on the path to recovery, as stated by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office is appealing to attendees of the event to share any photographs or videos they may have captured. Chief Deputy Gibbs remarked, “They may have been taking a selfie or a group photo of something nearby at that time. This information can assist us in mapping out the investigation.”
As the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the matter, no arrests have been made, nor have any suspects been identified. Deputies indicated that an altercation occurred among individuals in the crowd outside the Motorplex Dragstrip, which led to the gunfire.
“It is regrettable that a celebration of life culminated in the loss of life,” stated Orangeburg County Chief Deputy Chandra Gibbs. “The racing community has expressed their distress over the occurrence of such an event.” Gibbs noted that the other victims are recovering, although she did not provide details regarding their injuries. She emphasized that the sheriff’s office believes the shooting was not premeditated.
“Everyone has their own way of enjoying their time, and I do not think anyone arrived that day with the intention of experiencing such an event,” Deputy Chief Gibbs commented. “They came with the desire to enjoy themselves within their racing community.”
Representatives from Triggaman Racing mentioned on Thursday afternoon that they have been reaching out to the families affected by Saturday’s shooting, expressing that the incident has deeply impacted their racing community.
