Reggie Brown Obituary, Death; – A judge in Washington, D.C. has concluded the closing arguments in the trial of two teenagers accused of fatally assaulting a 64-year-old man in an alley located off the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest.
On October 17, 2023, surveillance footage captured five girls attacking the victim, identified by law enforcement as Reggie Brown. Prosecutors allege that Brown, who stood 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 110 pounds, was pursued, dragged, struck with his own belt, and subjected to kicks and stomps before succumbing to his injuries in the alley.
The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was trauma to Brown’s head. Photographic evidence of his body reveals a puncture wound on the side of his head, which prosecutors assert resulted from the assault.
The closing arguments presented on Tuesday pertained to a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old, who was only 12 at the time of the incident. Both defendants are facing numerous charges, including first-degree murder. On Thursday, they opted not to testify during the lengthy trial.
Additionally, a judge rejected motions for acquittal submitted by both defense attorneys on Thursday.
Prosecutors from the D.C. Attorney General’s Office contended that the group of five girls intended to engage in a fight and targeted Brown, who was already being assaulted by another individual. The girls had no prior acquaintance with either Brown or his assailant.
The prosecution is relying on a 55-second video recorded by the girls on the night of the incident. This footage, which was subsequently shared on Instagram, depicts the girls kicking and stomping Brown as he lies on the ground, bleeding. One of the girls can be heard saying, “He’s leaking,” in the video.
The video further illustrates the girls walking away, celebrating and laughing after abandoning Brown to die in the alley. In the days following the incident, the girls communicated about it, stating, “We jumped sb but killed him accidentally wit some random man from kdy.”
Prosecutors assert that the 14-year-old was responsible for delivering the final four stomps to Brown’s head. In contrast, the defense for the teenager argued that there was inadequate evidence to establish her presence during the assault, highlighting surveillance footage that does not clearly show her face.
