Peter Pulkkinen Obituary, Death; – The individual who lost his life in an accident involving a vehicle from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department has been named. Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden confirmed on Monday that 95-year-old Peter Pulkkinen succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital early Saturday morning.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a pickup truck from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department was traveling north on Highway 17 with its lights and sirens activated when it struck a Ford sedan driven by Pulkkinen, who was attempting to make a turn onto the highway.

Emergency medical assistance was provided to Pulkkinen by personnel from the MBFD; however, he later passed away at the hospital. The MBFD stated that the pickup was responding to a call regarding a structure fire at approximately 6 a.m. at the time of the incident.

The vehicle contained two fire department employees, both of whom were unharmed. In a statement, the department expressed, “Our hearts go out to everyone involved.” The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the accident.
