Paul Courtney Obituary, Death;- A man who was fatally shot in his residence in Parkland earlier this month has been identified, as reported by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. Paul Courtney, aged 63, succumbed to a shotgun wound to the chest on October 10 near the 400 block of 142nd Street Court South.

The office stated in a news release that his death was ruled a homicide. His son, 41-year-old Michael Paul Courtney, has been accused of the shooting. Investigators revealed that Michael Courtney’s mother overheard him conversing with someone upstairs in the house, prompting her to inquire of Paul Courtney about the identity of the person he was speaking with.

The woman informed deputies that she heard her husband ask shortly thereafter, “Are you pointing a gun at me?” just before a gunshot was fired. Prosecutors have charged Michael Courtney with first-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges and is currently being held at the Pierce County Jail with a bail set at $1 million.

Michael Courtney has prior convictions in Pierce County for third-degree assault domestic violence in 2011, as well as fourth-degree assault and obstructing a law enforcement officer in 2009. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 13.
