Patricia A. Corey Obituary, Death; – Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn has confirmed the identity of the Troy woman who tragically passed away due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident on Interstate 55 at the 19-mile marker.
The coroner’s office reported that 65-year-old Patricia A. Corey was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 when she exited onto the ramp leading to Interstate 55, contrary to the direction of traffic.
It is alleged that she attempted to execute a U-turn within the lanes of traffic, resulting in a collision with another vehicle that inflicted significant damage to the driver’s side of her car. Subsequently, a third vehicle struck the rear passenger side of her vehicle. The drivers of the other involved vehicles suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Coroner Nonn indicated that Corey was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the incident and mentioned that evidence at the scene implies she may have been undergoing a diabetic emergency. The Illinois State Police, along with the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.
