Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov Obituary, Death; – The two individuals who lost their lives in a shooting incident at Brown University on Saturday have been confirmed as students Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred in a classroom on the university’s Rhode Island campus on Saturday evening, resulting in at least nine additional injuries.
As of Monday morning, a suspect has yet to be identified; however, the university stated in a release that “local police have indicated they do not believe there is any immediate threat to Brown or the surrounding community.”

Cook was a sophomore hailing from Alabama, as noted by the state’s Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth in a post on X. She served as the vice president of Brown’s College Republicans, according to the College Republicans of America.
“Ella was a dedicated Christian and a staunch conservative who embodied the very best of Alabama,” Ainsworth remarked. “Her promising future was tragically cut short.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed in a post on X, “There are no words. My thoughts are with her family and friends, particularly her parents. God please bless them.”
CBS affiliate WIAT reports that Cook was a member of Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, which confirmed during its service on Sunday that she had died in the shooting.
“She was an incredibly grounded, generous, and faithful bright light, having been engaged and involved in our worship and community for many years,” a church spokesperson stated, according to the station.
Sen. Katie Boyd Britt mentioned that she and her husband Wesley “join the Mountain Brook community and all of Alabama in mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of our own.” Mountain Brook is a suburb of Birmingham.

The American Uzbekistan Association announced on social media that Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov was among those killed in the shooting.
“Mukhammad Aziz was recognized for his sharp intellect, kind heart, and quiet willingness to assist anyone in need,” the organization stated. “He carried himself with humility and compassion, earning the respect of those around him.”
