Michael Lucas Obituary, Death; – On Monday, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office disclosed the identity of a tractor-trailer driver who tragically lost his life in a collision in Rome the previous week.
The sheriff’s office has identified the driver as Michael Lucas, 39, from Turin, N.Y.
Initially, the office reported the crash in Rome on October 3. However, on Monday, it was revealed that authorities believe speed may have played a role in this fatal incident.
Deputies arrived at the scene of the overturned tractor-trailer on State Route 49 at the off-ramp leading to Martin Street. The tractor-trailer, resembling a dump truck, was owned by Real Deal Landscaping based in Cold Brook, N.Y.
According to the sheriff’s office, Lucas lost control of the tractor-trailer while making a turn, which resulted in the vehicle spilling its load of stone-type material onto the roadway. Consequently, the road was closed for several hours.
Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into this tragic crash remains ongoing.
