Matthew Helberg Obituary, Death; – The Colorado Springs Police Department has identified both the suspect and the victim involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday.
According to police reports, they responded to a shooting incident at approximately 11:43 p.m. at the intersection of East Platte Avenue and Cedar Street.
During their investigation, authorities discovered that three vehicles were present at the intersection, and two of the drivers engaged in a dispute. It was reported that all three drivers subsequently pulled over to the side of the road, where a confrontation and physical altercation took place.
As per police statements, one of the drivers retrieved a weapon and discharged it at one of the other drivers. Officers confirmed that the victim succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 39-year-old Matthew Helberg. Law enforcement officials stated that the shooting suspect, identified as 31-year-old Howard Heyliger, has been apprehended and charged with second-degree murder.
