Kwantrell Z Vargas Obituary, Death; 22-year-old Madison man shot and killed on Troy Drive identified

Kwantrell Z Vargas Obituary, Death; – The individual who was fatally shot on Madison’s north side last week has been officially identified by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cristina Figueroa Soto, the Director of Operations at the examiner’s office, confirmed that 22-year-old Kwantrell Z. Vargas of Madison succumbed to his injuries at the scene on December 5, specifically in the 1500 Block of Troy Drive, following a shooting incident that occurred at 7:02 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Madison Police Department announced the arrest of several suspects in connection with the fatal shooting, including two teenagers who sustained injuries during the event.

According to the MPD, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old male were apprehended on Monday evening and are currently being held at the Dane County Jail. A 16-year-old suspect remains hospitalized under police custody.

The MPD reports that the 16-year-old faces charges of felony murder as a party to a crime, first-degree reckless homicide, and robbery. The 17-year-old is charged with felony murder as a party to a crime and robbery. The 19-year-old is facing charges of aiding or harboring a felon, along with a probation hold.

Officers from the MPD responded to the Parkcrest Apartments, where they discovered Vargas with a gunshot wound in the parking lot and immediately initiated medical treatment. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

MPD public information officer Stephanie Fryer indicated that two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were shot and subsequently transported to the hospital. As of Tuesday, both injured individuals are now facing charges.

The cause and manner of Vargas’ death are currently under investigation, with additional testing being conducted. The case remains open and is being investigated by both the City of Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
