Kathy Cole Obituary, Death: – The Summerville Police Department has arrested Tristan Hayes on DUI charges following a fatal collision that occurred Thursday night. Hayes, who is currently hospitalized, faces a felony DUI charge resulting in death, according to police spokesperson Chris Hirsch.
The incident took place around 8:50 p.m. at the intersection of Golf Road and South Main Street. Officers found that Hayes, driving an SUV, crossed the center line while heading south and collided with a sedan traveling north. When police arrived, both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital with injuries. The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has identified the sedan driver as 62-year-old Kathy Cole from Ladson. An autopsy for Cole is scheduled for Tuesday.
Hayes will be booked at the Dorchester County Detention Center once he is discharged from the hospital. A booking photo has not been released yet. The crash is still under investigation, and Summerville Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 843-875-1650.
