Karla Leyva Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a 23-year-old woman who was involved in a suspected DUI incident in Carlsbad on Tuesday. Karla Leyva, a resident of Carlsbad, had just exited her vehicle on Las Palmas Drive near Camino Vida Roble and was standing beside it when she was struck by an approaching car at approximately 12:35 a.m., as reported by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Volkswagen Jetta involved in the incident also collided with three additional vehicles, according to Carlsbad police. The alleged driver of the Jetta, 26-year-old Jose Manuel Zambrano Cruz from Carlsbad, fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter on multiple charges, including DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
