Jose Bonilla Obituary, Death; – A man has lost his life after officials reported that he, along with a group of men, was repaving a section of Monmouth shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday, when a tire detached from an 18-wheeler and struck him, resulting in his death.
As per the Harris County Sheriff’s office, the incident occurred in the 100 block of Monmouth Street. Deputies indicated that an 18-wheeler was heading westbound on the East Freeway, while the victim, identified as Jose Bonilla, and other crew members were working on the repaving of the northbound lane of Monmouth.
At one point, the large truck lost its wheels while in motion; the tire fell from the main lanes, struck William Burns, another crew member, before colliding with the paving machine, and subsequently hit Bonilla. A third crew member, Israel Medellin, was also impacted. The tire then veered northeast, where it collided with an unoccupied Chevrolet Tahoe.
Medellin sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that Bonilla was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the case is ongoing.
