Carson Ryan Obituary, Death;- Homecoming Week appears somewhat different this year as the Washington community commemorates the life of a recently deceased teenager.
Carson Ryan, aged 17, was posthumously honored as Homecoming King on Thursday evening in the Washington High School Auditorium.
A poster featuring Ryan was placed on a chair beside Homecoming Queen, Iris Dahl.
The community is also paying tribute to Ryan during the Homecoming celebrations with hand-painted window signs and custom black-and-orange t-shirts displaying his football jersey number 80.
Ryan was engaged in squirrel hunting with a group on September 28 in rural Brighton when he was tragically shot and killed. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has stated that the investigation is ongoing but has classified the shooting as accidental.
Ryan’s family characterized him as “a friend to all.”
This marked Ryan’s inaugural year on the Washington Demons football team. The team is set to compete against Fairfield at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
His funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on October 6 at the Old Washington Middle School Gymnasium.
