John Morris,Aurelian Kamp Obituary, Death; – North Haven fire officials have confirmed the identities of the young boy and the man who perished in a house fire early Monday morning.
On Tuesday, fire officials identified them as 72-year-old John Morris and 8-year-old Aurelian Kamp.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the residence on George Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, they encountered severe fire conditions on both the first and second floors and were informed that a boy was trapped in a second-floor bedroom.
Upon reaching the upper level, they discovered an elderly male deceased and the boy hidden beneath a bed.
Investigators concluded that the fire originated in a den on the first floor, with the cause attributed to accidental smoking.
“Our firefighters exerted every effort under extremely difficult circumstances,” stated North Haven Fire Chief Paul Januszewski.
“This tragedy serves as a poignant reminder of the rapidity with which fires can spread and the importance of closing doors within your home to mitigate fire spread. Do not presume that someone else has contacted 911; make the call for assistance immediately. Most crucially, ensure that every home is equipped with functioning smoke alarms on every level, within each bedroom, and establish an escape plan that all household members regularly practice,” he added.
The investigation was carried out by the Connecticut State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit, the North Haven Fire Department, and the North Haven Police Department.
A vigil in their honor is set to take place at 6 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, located at 44 Washington Avenue in North Haven.
