Joel Castillo Obituary, Death; – A 14-year-old individual, charged with the shooting death of another teenager during a confrontation, attended his initial detention hearing on Friday.
According to a preliminary report from the San Antonio police, the youth brandished a firearm and shot 16-year-old Joel Castillo multiple times during an altercation at an apartment complex on the West Side on Wednesday evening.
The suspect fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement. During the hearing on Friday morning, it was disclosed that the teenager was on probation for a prior, undisclosed offense. A probation officer informed the court that the individual had failed drug tests more than seven times while under probation.
Judge William “Cruz” Shaw mandated that the teenager remain in custody until his next hearing scheduled for later this month.
