James Rayburn Obituary, Death; – A worker from the water and sewer department has tragically lost his life following a trench collapse late Thursday night in Georgia.
The incident occurred while two workers were engaged in repairs on a sewer line, resulting in the trench collapsing around them. Emergency services were dispatched to Coosawattee Avenue, near Shorter Avenue in west Rome, at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The two individuals remained trapped for several hours before rescue efforts were successful. Both workers were subsequently transported to the Floyd County Medical Center to receive treatment for their injuries.
The city of Rome later announced that one of the workers had passed away, identifying him as 55-year-old James Rayburn. The city noted that Rayburn had been a dedicated employee of the water and sewer department for many years. The current condition of the other worker, named Michael Walters, remains unknown.
