The incident occurred at approximately 5:14 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, when the man attempted to cross the intersection near North Main Street and East Main Street from a private parking lot, as reported by the Burlington Police Department.
He was declared dead at the scene despite the life-saving measures taken by first responders. The pedestrian was identified as James L. Vos, an 88-year-old resident of Burlington.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident has been identified as a 41-year-old resident of Burlington, who police stated remained at the scene. She did not sustain any injuries. At the time of the report, no criminal charges had been filed against the driver. However, authorities indicated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
