Howard Gribbin Obituary, Death; – A bicyclist was tragically struck and killed on Friday along Route 1 in Scarborough by a driver who, according to police, fled the scene.

Scarborough police arrived at the crash site on the southbound side of Route 1, close to Southgate Road, at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Friday.

The bicyclist has been identified as 59-year-old Howard Gribbin. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he succumbed to his injuries, as stated in a police news release issued on Friday afternoon.

Authorities believe the vehicle involved in the incident is a silver SUV that is expected to exhibit considerable front-end damage. Scarborough police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident or has information regarding the vehicle’s whereabouts to reach out to Officer Lauren Bartlett at 207-730-4329 or Lt. Timothy Barker at 207-730-4303.

Route 1, situated between the busy corridors of Haigis Parkway and Payne Road, was closed for approximately three hours on Friday morning while officers conducted their investigation.
