Dominique Byrdsong Obituary, Death; – The Grove City Division of Police has identified a suspect who was fatally shot by law enforcement after allegedly shooting an officer on Wednesday night. Authorities also released body camera footage of the incident on Friday afternoon.

Grove City officers received a call around 5:15 p.m. regarding a burglary in progress at a residence located in the 3800 block of Louise Court, as stated by Stern during a press conference.

A homeowner reportedly observed an unknown individual inside the house armed with a gun, managed to escape safely, and contacted the police. Stern indicated that the responding officers established a perimeter and instructed the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Dominique Byrdsong, to surrender.

Byrdsong then allegedly barricaded himself within the residence, prompting the arrival of the Grove City Strategic Response Team, according to Stern.

Stern reported that officers witnessed Byrdsong fleeing from the home at approximately 8:35 p.m. and initiated a pursuit.

Evidence, including statements from witnesses, suggested that he discharged a firearm at least twice towards the officers, injuring one, as per police reports. Stern mentioned that possibly two or three officers subsequently returned fire, resulting in Byrdsong being shot.

Both the injured officer and Byrdsong were transported to the hospital. The officer is in stable condition, while Byrdsong was pronounced dead, according to Stern. No additional injuries were reported.

On Thursday evening, Brian Steel, President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9, stated that the officer underwent surgery and is now recovering at home.

What does the bodycam reveal?

Grove City police uploaded an edited version of the bodycam footage to YouTube. Stern noted that the video contains three segments of the incident, asserting that these are the most comprehensive videos available regarding the shooting.

In the initial segment of the three-minute video, an officer can be heard commanding Byrdsong to lie on the ground at around 5:15 p.m. Less than ten minutes later, another officer is heard instructing Byrdsong to exit the house.

The subsequent segment of the video depicts an officer with a flashlight examining what seems to be the rear of the residence at 8:37 p.m.
