Denise Avila Obituary, Death; – A 28-year-old man from Costa Mesa has been charged with the murder of a woman with whom he shared an apartment. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Denise Avila, was fatally stabbed around 8 p.m. on Sunday in their residence located in the 500 block of Victoria Street, according to Roxi Fyad, a spokesperson for the Costa Mesa police.
Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Her partner, Martin Jonathan Laragarcia, was apprehended hours later upon his return to the apartment, as reported by Fyad. While it remains unclear whether the couple was married, they were cohabitating. Laragarcia faces charges of murder, which include a sentencing enhancement due to the personal use of a deadly weapon.
