Christopher Garcia Obituary, Death; – A 16-year-old boy from Los Angeles County has passed away nearly two weeks after sustaining a serious injury during a high school football game, as reported by various sources.
The individual, named Christopher Garcia in an online fundraising campaign, was a junior at South East High School located in South Gate. This information was initially disclosed by Eric Sondheimer, a high school sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times.
Garcia sustained his injury while participating in a junior varsity game on August 23 and was subsequently transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The online fundraiser, authored by someone claiming to be a friend of Garcia’s sister, indicated that he suffered a brain injury during the game.
“Christopher was a vibrant and passionate young man who brought joy and energy to everyone around him,” the post states. “As a dedicated high school football player, he was known for his enthusiasm both on and off the field. Beyond his athletic abilities, Christopher was a loving son, sibling, and a loyal friend. His loss creates a significant void in the lives of all who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed.”
The funds collected through the GoFundMe campaign will be allocated to funeral expenses and support for Garcia’s family. As of 1 p.m. on Thursday, the campaign had raised $10,000 of its $40,000 target.
According to Sondheimer, two medical personnel were present at the time of Garcia’s injury, which is a requirement set by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Garcia’s passing marks the 11th death attributed to injuries sustained in middle and high school football this year, as reported by the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury.
