Chibeza Nyirenda Jr Obituary, Death;- A 28-year-old pedestrian, identified by police as a resident of Riverside, was fatally struck by a bus near downtown on Thursday after stepping in front of it.
Chibeza Nyirenda Jr. was hit shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Chicago Avenue and 12th Street, as reported by the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Tim Jensen stated that an RTA bus, while on its regular route, stopped to pick up or drop off passengers on the southbound side of Chicago. Just as the bus began to accelerate away, Nyirenda “positioned himself in front of the bus,” resulting in the collision.
Jensen noted that the driver promptly halted the vehicle and dialed 911.
Paramedics from the Riverside Fire Department arrived within minutes and discovered the victim unconscious and severely injured.
He was transported to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was declared dead less than 45 minutes later.
The Major Accident Investigation Team of the police department was engaged on Thursday to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
