Carolyn Rose Obituary, Death; – An elderly woman has tragically lost her life after being struck by a train in Richmond on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Richmond Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Norfolk and Southern Railway crossing shortly before 1 p.m. on September 29, near the intersection of North 12th and “E” Streets, following reports of a pedestrian being hit by an eastbound Norfolk and Southern train.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the victim, later identified as 73-year-old Carolyn Rose, and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Rose, for reasons yet to be determined, walked directly into the train’s path. At this stage, there is no evidence suggesting foul play.

Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly expressed the community’s sorrow, stating, “Our hearts are broken over this devastating loss. Ms. Rose was a member of our community, and this tragedy is felt deeply by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”

The Richmond Police Department’s Traffic/PACT Unit, Investigative Services Division, and Drone Team were all involved in responding to the incident. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Investigative Services Division.
