Carlie Frizzell Obituary, Death; – The family of a teenage girl who lost her life in a shooting incident earlier this month has stated that her death occurred when her boyfriend’s firearm discharged accidentally while he was in the process of cleaning it. Both the boyfriend and the family are profoundly affected by her passing.

In a conversation with the Dispatch, Carlie Frizzell’s stepfather, Sam Messina, who is 16 years old and a mother to a 2-year-old daughter, described the incident as accidental. He explained that although the boyfriend believed the gun was unloaded, a bullet remained in the chamber, leading to the weapon firing upon reassembly.

“It was an accidental shooting during a gun cleaning,” stated Sam Messina. “That’s all … Her boyfriend is a very caring and kind young man. We have known him for three years, and he has always treated her well.” The shooting took place on the 500 block of South Eureka Avenue at approximately 10:34 p.m. on October 2. Emergency medical personnel transported Frizzell to OhioHealth Grant Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.

In an audio recording acquired by the Columbus Dispatch, a woman identifying herself as Frizzell’s mother, Amber Messina, informed officials at the Columbus police radio room that Frizzell’s boyfriend had “a history of domestic violence with her.”

However, Amber Messina later clarified via text message that there had been no incidents of domestic violence. “I did speak with a detective briefly and was upset and hurt when I spoke to him,” she stated in a text message. “My daughter’s boyfriend is devastated by this tragedy … They do not have a history of domestic violence. He has never even raised his voice at her.”

Sam Messina suggested that Amber Messina’s comments were a result of shock. He also mentioned that he was unaware of any confirmation regarding Frizzell’s pregnancy, despite Amber Messina’s claims during the police call. Sam Messina asserted that they “have no knowledge” of a pregnancy.

A representative from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office indicated that confirmation of Frizzell’s pregnancy would not be possible until the autopsy is completed. A spokesperson for the Columbus police also provided no further details.
