Bradly Chapman,Sylvia Chapman Obituary, Death; – The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that two individuals lost their lives following a fire that occurred on Saturday at a residence in the Town of Spring Prairie.
Emergency responders, including deputies and firefighters, arrived at the scene around 5:25 p.m. on Saturday, located on Highway 11, just east of Elkhorn. Upon arrival, crews observed flames engulfing the second floor of the residence, while witnesses expressed uncertainty regarding the presence of occupants inside.
Deputies conducted a search of the first floor and reported that the upper staircase was engulfed in flames. Firefighters from the Lyons Fire Department proceeded to search the second-floor apartment and discovered two individuals. They successfully rescued the pair from the inferno and attempted to revive them; however, both ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
The Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the deceased as Bradly Chapman, aged 58, and Sylvia Chapman, aged 83. A man claiming to be the property owner informed WMTV 15 News partner Fox6 that the two were a mother and son.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office noted that assistance was sought from neighboring agencies to combat the fire, which was brought under control shortly after 8:20 p.m., with the last units departing the scene around 1 a.m. the following day.
One firefighter sustained injuries and received treatment on-site. The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office has not yet provided information regarding the potential cause of the fire or the cause of death for the two individuals. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, in collaboration with the medical examiner’s office.
