Jaivon Ugene Best Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the pedestrian who lost his life in a hit-and-run incident that occurred early Monday morning on the south side of the city.

The deceased, Jaivon Ugene Best, aged 31, from Washington, D.C., was struck at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Monday, June 30, in the 10200 block of Jefferson Boulevard. Emergency responders arrived to find Best in a critical state. He was transported to the hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that Best was walking along Jefferson Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle heading eastbound. The driver fled the scene but has since been identified as an 18-year-old woman from Goshen. Investigators report that the driver has been located and is cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team has been assigned to manage the case, which is standard protocol for serious traffic incidents. As of Tuesday, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is still active.
