Anthony Pitt Obituary, Death; – Investigations are currently underway regarding a shooting incident involving law enforcement and two suspects, resulting in the death of one individual.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony Pitt, a resident of Laventille Road in San Juan. Pitt was reportedly known to the police and was wanted in connection with recent incidents of shootings and injuries in the North Eastern Division.
According to police accounts, around 4 PM on Monday, a team of officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force, along with personnel from the San Juan police station, were conducting operations in the Morvant area.
While patrolling on foot along a steep path north of the mountains, near Geranium Avenue, the officers spotted two men, one of whom was allegedly brandishing an object that resembled a firearm. Upon noticing the officers, both individuals fled towards them, and one suspect reportedly drew a firearm, aiming it at the police. Fearing for their safety, the officers took cover and discharged their weapons in accordance with the use of force policy.
The two suspects then escaped into a densely wooded area. The officers pursued them and confronted one of the suspects, who again aimed an object resembling a rifle at the officers. A shootout ensued, resulting in the suspect collapsing.
The officers recovered the rifle, which was loaded with several rounds of ammunition. The suspect was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
