Wilma Castor Obituary, Death; – The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services announced the passing of an inmate on Monday.

Wilma Castor, aged 76, had been serving a life sentence at the Nebraska Correction Center for Women since the year 2000. She died on Monday in a hospital located in Lincoln. The specific cause of her death has not yet been established; however, it has been reported that she succumbed while receiving treatment for “a medical condition,” as stated in the NDCS release.

In accordance with state law concerning any death occurring in custody, Castor’s death will be subject to investigation by a grand jury. The resident of Kearney was convicted of murdering her ex-husband during a dispute over financial matters on Thanksgiving Day in 1996. His remains were discovered in a ditch near Riverdale, situated northwest of Kearney, and court documents indicate that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Initially convicted in December 1997, Castor appealed the verdict and was subsequently granted a retrial. She began serving her sentence in April 2000 after being found guilty of first-degree murder and additional charges in Buffalo County.
