Walt Ehmer Obituary, Death; – Walt Ehmer, the president and CEO of Waffle House, has passed away. Ehmer, who had been at the helm of the renowned breakfast restaurant chain since 2012, died at the age of 58.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Walt Ehmer, the CEO of Waffle House and a proud alumnus of Georgia Tech. His leadership, commitment, and kindness impacted many lives, both within the Waffle House community and beyond. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy,” stated Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. “My thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time. May they find solace in his lasting influence and the significant contributions he made to so many.”
Ehmer was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Atlanta Police Foundation. The foundation characterized Ehmer as a “dedicated leader” and a “tireless advocate for public safety,” noting his “passion for community service and unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of others.”
Waffle House was established in 1955 in Avondale Estates, Georgia, when Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner envisioned a “24-hour, sit-down restaurant for their friends and neighbors.” Currently, there are over 1,900 Waffle House locations across 25 states, with all restaurants operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
