Thomas Smith Jr,Michael Bassett Obituary, Death; – A man has been charged with the shooting and murder of two teenagers in Temple Hills late Tuesday night. The suspect has been named as 27-year-old Duan Goddard from Fort Washington. Goddard is presently in custody in Washington, DC, awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
The victims have been identified as 16-year-old Thomas Smith, Jr. from Washington, D.C., and 16-year-old Michael Bassett from Temple Hills. Prince George’s County Police were in the vicinity of the 5500 block of Haras Place when they heard gunfire at 9:35 p.m. The officers searched the area and found the two teenage victims outside an apartment building located in the 5200 block of Haras Place.
Authorities report that Smith was declared dead at the scene. Bassett succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter at a hospital. A third teenager who was present with the victims was also targeted but was not hit, according to police. Goddard faces charges of first and second-degree murder along with related offenses.
