Thomas Hayes,Dawn Jones Obituary, Death;- A man and a woman who lost their lives in a murder-suicide incident at a Spanaway residence last week have been named. Thomas Hayes, aged 57, succumbed to a gunshot wound to the torso in the 20600 block of 7th Avenue Court East on October 9.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office classified his manner of death as a homicide, as stated in a news release. Dawn Jones, aged 54, died from a gunshot wound to the head, with her manner of death determined to be a suicide, according to the release. Both Jones and Hayes were residents of Spanaway.
At 10:41 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the residence following reports of a man being shot. Several neighbors informed the deputies upon their arrival that they had heard gunfire emanating from the house, and no one was responding to the door, as reported by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in a blotter entry. After deputies forced entry into the house, they discovered both Hayes and Jones deceased.
A 14-year-old girl was found alive, hiding in a closet within a bedroom. She was not connected to the fatalities and was subsequently released into the care of family members. The report indicated that there are no additional suspects, and the incident was confined to the residence.
