Santos Martinez Obituary, Death; – A pedestrian who tragically lost his life after being hit by a vehicle on the transition road from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway to the westbound Marina (90) Freeway in Culver City was publicly named on Sunday.
Santos Martinez, aged 41, succumbed to blunt traumatic injuries, as reported by the Medical Examiner’s office. His place of residence has not been revealed. The California Highway Patrol received a notification at 4:25 a.m. on Friday regarding a pedestrian being struck by an Infiniti sedan.
Martinez was declared dead by personnel from the Culver City Fire Department at 4:42 a.m., according to a CHP officer. The incident resulted in the closure of the transition road, and a SigAlert was issued, which was later canceled at 7:12 a.m., as stated by the CHP. This incident marked the second fatality on that brief segment of freeway near Marina del Rey within a week.
Chandler Jones, 33, a former player in the NFL and Canadian Football League who gained prominence at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, was also struck by a vehicle and killed near the western end of the 90 freeway around 2 a.m. last Sunday. It is important to note that he should not be confused with his NFL counterpart, also named Chandler Jones, who is a four-time Super Bowl champion and two-time All-Pro, currently aged 35.
