Robert Stempel Obituary, Death; – The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has identified a local man who died following a Thursday afternoon crash.

Coroner Darryl Ables said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on South Dixie Road near Jordan Creek Road. Ables said a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche truck was heading north on South Dixie Road when it went off the left side of the road, hit a fence and flipped. The driver, 63-year-old Robert Stempel of Salley, was airlifted to Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, where he died roughly two hours later.

The coroner said he and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the crash.
