Robert Carvalho Obituary, Death; – Maui police reported that a man from Makawao died on Sunday after falling from a waterfall along Hana Highway.
He has been identified as 18-year-old Robert Carvalho, a resident of Makawao.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, near mile marker 6 of the highway. Carvalho was allegedly hiking with friends when he lost his balance and fell.
The Maui Fire Department deployed the Air Hekili helicopter to access Carvalho at the base of the waterfall, which is estimated to be a 120-foot drop. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Based on initial investigations, police indicated that there are no indications of foul play. An autopsy has been arranged.
“The Maui Police Department expresses our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Carvalho’s family and friends,” stated the police in an official announcement.
