Patrick Sathyanathan Obituary, Death;  –The individual who was fatally shot by a police officer in Bellevue on Friday morning succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.

Patrick Sathyanathan, aged 60, was identified on Monday by the medical examiner’s office of King County, which concluded that he died from the headshot and classified his death as a homicide.

A police officer from Bellevue shot and killed Sathyanathan, who, according to police reports, fired at officers using a “high-velocity air rifle” early Friday in the vicinity of the 15800 block of Northup Way. Officers retrieved an air rifle that discharged metal projectiles, as stated by Washington State Patrol Sgt. Jermaine Walker.

The State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the shooting as part of King County’s Independent Force Investigation Team.

Walker, along with Drew Anderson, a spokesperson for the Bellevue Police Department, did not provide any further details on Monday, including the specifics of the call that officers were responding to on Friday or any information regarding the officer or officers involved. Investigators did not confirm that police had fatally shot a man until nearly 18 hours after the incident.

Police were dispatched to reports around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday at an apartment complex, indicating that a man was charging at individuals with a sword, as reported by KING 5. The news outlet indicated that the man had barricaded himself in his apartment upon the arrival of the police and began firing at officers with what seemed to be an airsoft rifle.

No police officers sustained injuries.
