Morgan Lakesha Hawkins Obituary, Death; – Authorities have disclosed the identity of a woman who tragically lost her life in a devastating accident on Sunday along U.S. 280.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the victim to be Morgan Lakesha Hawkins, a 27-year-old resident of Birmingham.
The incident occurred at 1:16 p.m. on U.S. 280, situated between Cherokee Road and Cahaba Road.
According to Rocky Ridge Fire District Chief Jon Lord, the vehicle was heading westbound when it lost control and collided with the median guardrail on the passenger side.
The collision resulted in both occupants being trapped within the vehicle and caused the guardrail to intrude into two of the eastbound lanes, leading to the closure of that section of the roadway for several hours.
Hawkins, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was declared deceased at the scene at 1:45 p.m.
The driver, whose name has not yet been disclosed, was transported to UAB Hospital with serious injuries, as reported by Lord.
In addition to the Rocky Ridge team, firefighters and police from Mountain Brook also arrived at the scene, along with Alabama state troopers.
The investigation is currently being conducted by the Mountain Brook police.
