Michael Wilson Obituary, Death; – A 68-year-old man experiencing homelessness, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident in the Vermont-Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, was identified on Thursday.
The incident took place around 7 p.m. on February 24, when the driver of a white compact sedan made a northbound turn from 104th Place onto Figueroa Street, colliding with a pedestrian outside of a crosswalk, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Following the collision, the driver continued north on Figueroa Street without stopping to assist the victim, according to police.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported the man to a hospital, where he later passed away. The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner identified him as Michael Wilson on Thursday.
In a statement, the police department reminded motorists that if they are involved in a collision, they should safely pull over, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to provide their identification.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect. Detectives have released a video clip of the hit-and-run incident in hopes of garnering public assistance in identifying a person of interest.
