Melquan A Stewart Arrested; – A man from Port Charlotte is currently in custody following an incident in which sheriff’s deputies allege he fatally shot his father and subsequently returned to the location to surrender.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, 911 dispatchers received a report around 7 p.m. on December 8 regarding gunfire in the vicinity of Abscott Street in Port Charlotte.
One caller indicated that a man was bleeding in a driveway. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds.
The man succumbed to his injuries, prompting detectives to take over the investigation.
While units were present, they observed the victim’s vehicle arriving and parking in close proximity. A man identified as Melquan A. Stewart, aged 25, approached the scene on foot, appearing to be covered in blood, as stated by the sheriff’s office in a news release.
Stewart informed deputies that he was surrendering and admitted to killing his father, according to the news release.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, and is currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
